Structure
What the template contains
Three sheets: the measurement sheet, a legend of gauge codes and a page of notes. Everything that matters is on the first one.
Header block
Customer, supplier, part name and number, drawing number with revision, lot, report number, inspection facility, inspector, material, date, standard and reason – all labelled in German and English.
Characteristic table
One row per drawing characteristic: number as ballooned on the drawing, class, description, symbol, nominal, upper and lower deviation. Forty rows prepared, extend as you like.
Limits calculate themselves
Maximum and minimum are computed from nominal and deviations as soon as you enter numbers. For GD&T frames without deviations the cells stay empty instead of wrong.
OK verdict across five samples
Up to five measured values per characteristic. The verdict turns green when every entered sample lies within the limits, red otherwise – a single sample outside is enough.
Gauge codes
Eight short codes from caliper to CMM as a drop-down list, with a legend sheet. Free text remains allowed and you may add your own codes.
Ready to print
Landscape, one page wide, table header repeated on every page, signature fields for author, checker and customer approval. Save as PDF and pass it on.
The sheet
What a completed row looks like
The example row from the template: a Ø 20 H7 bore, three samples measured. Blue was typed in, black was calculated by the sheet.
| Nr. | Klasse Class | Merkmal Characteristic | Symbol | Nennmaß Nominal | Tol + | Tol − | Größtmaß Max. | Kleinstmaß Min. | Messmittel Equipment | Actual 1 | Actual 2 | Actual 3 | i.O. OK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | CTQ | Ø 20 H7 bore | Ø | 20 | +0,021 | 0 | 20,021 | 20 | GD plug gauge | 20,005 | 20,012 | 20,008 | OK |
The column order is the one the DrawingStamp Pro Excel export writes – anyone who knows the template finds their way around the export immediately.
Frankly
What the template is – and what it is not
“Modelled on VDA Volume 2 and PPAP” means: the same structure and the same columns the measurement part of a first article inspection report needs. It does not mean: the official form of the standard.
It is
- A measurement sheet with header data, characteristic table, verdict and signatures
- Formulas for limits and OK verdict – standard functions, recalculated in LibreOffice Calc
- Free to use and modify, in production and with your own logo
- The same sheet layout DrawingStamp Pro fills straight from the drawing
It is not
- Not an official VDA or AIAG form
- No cover sheet, no material or process evidence, no approval workflow
- No AS9102 forms for aerospace – DrawingStamp Pro generates those directly
- No promise that your customer accepts exactly this sheet – that is in their agreement
And then?
Columns A to J are filled by DrawingStamp Pro automatically
The template saves you the arithmetic – not the re-typing. With a drawing of 150 characteristics it remains: find every dimension, number it, carry it with its tolerance into the table. That is exactly the step DrawingStamp Pro does.
The software detects dimensions, ISO tolerances, GD&T frames and surface specifications in the PDF, TIFF, DWG or DXF drawing, places the numbered inspection balloons and writes number, class, characteristic, symbol, nominal, deviations, limits and a gauge suggestion into exactly this sheet. The measured-value columns and the verdict remain for the inspector. Aerospace suppliers can choose AS9102 Forms 1 to 3 instead.
Everything runs locally on your machine – the customer drawing never leaves the building.
Frequently asked
Questions about the template
Is the template really free?
Yes. No form, no email address, no watermark. You may change it, add your logo and use it in production.
Is the template VDA 2 or PPAP compliant?
It is modelled on the structure of VDA Volume 2 and PPAP – header data and, per characteristic, nominal, tolerance, limits, measured values and verdict – but it is not an official VDA or AIAG form. Which form your customer requires is stated in their purchase order or supply agreement. Many accept a supplier’s own measurement sheet as long as every characteristic appears with nominal, tolerance, measured value and verdict.
How does the OK verdict work?
As soon as a measured value is entered, the cell checks every entered sample of the row: if all lie between minimum and maximum, it shows a green “i.O.” (OK), otherwise a red “n.i.O.” (not OK). A value exactly on the limit counts as OK. Where no limits can be calculated – a GD&T frame without deviations, say – the cell stays empty and you judge by hand.
How do I enter tolerances?
Tol + and Tol − as numbers with their sign, exactly as they appear on the drawing: for 20 ±0.1 that is +0.1 and −0.1; for 22 +0.25/+0.05 the lower deviation is +0.05. For ISO fits take the deviations from the tolerance table – for Ø 20 H7 that is +0.021 and 0. Maximum and minimum then appear by themselves.
Does the template work in LibreOffice or Google Sheets?
The formulas are standard (IF, AND, MIN, MAX, COUNT, ISNUMBER). The file is in Excel format and the formulas have been recalculated in LibreOffice Calc. They should calculate just as well in Excel and Google Sheets – we have not verified that ourselves.
Can DrawingStamp Pro fill in the template?
Yes – the software export produces exactly this sheet: number, class, characteristic, symbol, nominal, deviations, limits and a gauge suggestion come from the detected drawing, the measured-value columns and the verdict remain for the inspector. Optionally as AS9102 Forms 1 to 3 for aerospace.
